Time to Start Weighing the Options

The December 2021 catastrophe provided an opportunity to rebuild our jail so it (1) safely houses an appropriate number of state and county inmates, (2) provides necessary educational and technical training to qualified inmates, (3) offers state-approved behavioral and substance abuse programming to inmates, and (4) employs our citizens and contributes to replenishing our work force. Additionally, with responsible and professional management, our detention center will no longer be a significant financial deficit for the county.

Demolition of our buildings might be difficult to witness, but our citizens have already endured the real destruction that happened 8 months ago. We are finally getting closer to rebuilding, reconstructing, replacing… whatever we want to call this renewing of a major part of our community. And this goes for our detention center, too.

Whomever is elected Jailer on 8 November 2022 will have a significant role in rebuilding our Graves County Detention Center and determining whether our facility will be built and managed as it should be. When you make your selection as our next Jailer, please consider the education, professional history, leadership skills, and knowledge each of us has. And know that I would be proud and excited to help build a facility Graves County needs and deserves!
